Document Title 1
Born in the east end of Glasgow, David's musical studies started at the age of 6, when he began attending East Glasgow Music School, a local charity organization which provides instrumental lessons and choir training at a fraction of the cost of private tuition. There he received weekly cello lessons as well as choir and orchestral training. During his six years at the school, he began receiving piano lessons on a private basis from Martha Riley and later Rob Foxcroft.
At the age of twelve, David was accepted to study at the Music School of Douglas Academy, where he studied cello with Myra Chahin and piano with Jean Hutchison. At 18, he won the Ailie Cullen Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding performance at the Glasgow Music Festival and in the same year successfully completed a diploma (AMusTCL) from Trinity College London. Subsequently, David read Music (BMus) at the University of Glasgow, gaining a first class honours degree, during which he was accepted to study abroad at the University of Illinois with Dmitry Kouzov of the Manhattan Piano Trio. Upon returning to Scotland, he began studying with Robert Irvine, under whose instruction he completed a Masters in 'Cello Performance (with Distinction) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
David has performed as part of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Scottish Opera, and with the contemporary music ensemble Red Note.
Notable performing highlights include Aldeburgh Music Festival, Aberdeen International Festival, Young Euro Classic Festival (Berlin), the RCS 'Fridays at One' and 'Mondays at One' series, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Glasgow's West End Festival and Celtic Connections.
