Frances Mason, violinist, enjoys a busy solo and chamber music career. She plays in the Tagore String Trio, the Beethoven Broadwood Piano Trio, the London Harpsichord Ensemble, gives recitals,duos with harp and leads the Rasumovsky Quartet.
As a child Frances studied with Albert Sammons and continued her studies with Alan Loveday at the RCM where she was awarded the Violin Prizes and the Tagore and Worshipful Company of Musicians Medals. Frances went on to win awards in the Carl Flesch and BBC Violin Competitions as well as the NFMS (now Making Music) Award. She has broadcast much of the repertoire for violin and piano and has appeared as soloist at the BBC Proms on several occasions. Her rich ensemble experiences have included the Zorian Quartet and the Music Group of London, broadcasting, recording and touring internationally.
Frances was for many years Professor at the RCM and is an inspirational teacher of chamber music. Her varied discography ranges from Vaughan Williams''On Wenlock Edge"with the MGL to recent releases of chamber music by Gordon Jacob, William Alwyn and trios by Schubert, Hummel, Dohnanyi and Kodaly.
