Biography

Document Title 1

Richard Carr began his musical career as a county music scholar at the High Wycombe Music Centre, where he studied piano and 'cello. After two years as Organ Scholar at All Saints Parish Church, High Wycombe, Richard won an Organ Scholarship to study music at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. After graduating in 2003, Richard spent two years as Musician in Residence at Ardingly College in West Sussex, before moving to Cambridge to become a freelance accompanist and teacher.

Based in Stansted, Essex, Richard performs as soloist and accompanist on the piano, organ and harpsichord, and teaches piano, organ and singing to many students, both privately, and as a visiting music teacher at King's College School, Cambridge. Richard is currently Director of Music at St Michael’s Church, Bishop’s Stortford, where he directs the choirs of adults and children, and oversees the church's music programme.

As accompanist, he has performed in France, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, the USA, and in many British venues, including York Minster, Westminster Abbey, King’s College Chapel, Gloucester Cathedral, Tewkesbury Abbey, Wells Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral, Salisbury Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, Worcester Cathedral and St Alban’s Abbey.

He is the regular rehearsal accompanist for the Saffron Walden Choral Society, and occasional accompanist for many other choirs in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. In recent years, Richard has had the privilege of accompanying workshops for leading choral composers and conductors, including Bob Chilcott, John Rutter, Colin Baldy, Brian Kay, Colin Durrant, Greg Beardsell, James Burton and James Davey.
