Stephen studied piano, percussion and composition at Trinity College, London, and conducting with Dr. Jack Stamp at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA, where he was awarded a Master of Arts degree. He has enjoyed a successful career as a director of music in secondary schools, and has also worked as a freelance conductor, pianist and percussionist. He is a choral conducting trainer for the national choral organisation Sing for Pleasure, an examiner for the Royal Schools of Music and a published arranger (OUP). He has worked as guest conductor for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (USA) and for South Wessex Opera Company, in addition to directing Milton Abbey Festival and working with the Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus. He is the founder director of the All Hallows Festival.
Stephen has directed several choral societies including Broadstone Community Choir, The Lease Singers and Cantante Camerati. Leading these ensembles has involved directing a wide variety of musical styles from classical oratorios, to anthems, part songs, madrigals and contemporary arrangements. Stephen is married to the saxophonist Wen Yee Yeung who also holds an MA from IUP and is currently serving with the Corps of Army Music. They have a daughter, Anna, aged 14.
