Biography

Document Title 1

Deirdre has enjoyed a varied career, encompassing chamber music, recital and orchestral work and teaching. She is equally at home in both ‘modern’ and 'period' instrumental performance.

After graduating with the much coveted Recital Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music London, where she was awarded a scholarship to study with Carmel Kaine, Deirdre continued her studies in the USA completing four years of post graduate work at Rice University Houston Texas, with international soloist and pioneering Baroque recording artist Sergiu Luca. Whilst working as his teaching assistant, she also freelanced with Houston Symphony, Ballet and Opera Orchestras before winning a permanent position with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. During her time in the USA she frequently appeared as guest artist at the Cascade Head Chamber Music Festival and also with Context and Da Camera Society in Houston.

She returned to Europe to take up the post of ‘Professor of Violin’ at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Now back in the UK she teaches at 'Chethams School of Music' and the ‘Royal Northern College of Music Junior School’ as well as teaching her class of private students from the Lancashire and Cumbria area.

Deirdre performed internationally and recorded regularly with English Baroque Soloists and ‘l’orchestre revolutionnaire et romantique’ for a number of years before returning to chamber music playing, leading both the ‘Ensemble Tremoine’ and ‘The Quartet for the King of Prussia’.

She now combines her teaching commitments with freelance work with various orchestras in the North of England, such as the Halle and the Northern Chamber Orchestra.

Deirdre is also a Yachtmaster and RYA sailing instructor. She spends the summer months teaching yacht sailing on Morecambe Bay with Bay Sea School the company she formed with her partner several years ago!

Deirdre holds enhanced DBS forms for both Chetham's School of Music & RNCM Juniors.
