Samuel Becker is a London-based musician, working as a composer/arranger, conductor and teacher.
Sam’s work covers a variety of genres from pieces for solo instruments, chamber and choral groups, to large-scale pieces for concert band and orchestra. Sam has also written many arrangements for school groups and other ensembles.
Sam grew up in Northamptonshire where he benefited from the excellent local music service, learning the clarinet/saxophone and gaining lots of performing experience in a variety of ensembles and orchestras. He started composing while at school and had several pieces performed.
He read music at Goldsmiths College, University of London. As well as having compositions performed both at the College and elsewhere, he also studied clarinet with Ruth McDowell (BBC S.O.) and explored other areas of musical interest. Sam developed his conducting, both of the standard orchestral repertoire and contemporary pieces, often setting up and running ensembles in the process.
Since graduating, Samuel has been busy as composer and arranger, conductor, performer and educator.
A busy schedule of teaching and coaching includes work for Lewisham Music and other schools/private students; conductor of the Lewisham Schools Concert Band; a regular coach on holiday courses and workshops (including Berwang Holiday Music, Spring Music, LPO/Trinity Animate Orchestra and Lewisham Junior Orchestra); regular conductor for the Rebel Chorus (including CD Recordings and a live streamed performance online).
